When buying a pillow, you should consider your body type, preferred sleeping position and the firmness of your mattress. Together, these factors determine how your spine is aligned during sleep. The most important factor is the sleeping position , as it defines the right height of the pillow to support your spine and improve blood circulation. Side sleepers generally need taller pillows than back sleepers, while stomach sleepers require minimal neck support.

The second thing to consider is body shape, because someone tall or with wide shoulders would need a higher pillow, while someone with a smaller frame may find a lower pillow more comfortable.

The last point to consider is the mattress - if you have a soft and elastic mattress which you'd sink deeper into, we'd recommend a flatter pillow. However, if your mattress is a bit harder and you sink just a little, your pillow should be slightly higher.

For side sleepers, who lay slightly elevated, a good option can be the Emma Premium Foam pillow. For stomach sleepers, who are more likely to sleep flat, the Premium Cloud pillow, with the middle layer removed, may be more comfortable. For back sleepers, the most ideal position for a night of good sleep is normally the supine position and for that the Original Foam pillow would be the right choice.

All Emma pillows are designed to fit any body type and to be adjustable, either by adding or removing layers or simply by flipping the pillow over as it's possible with our Original Hybrid Pillow.

The pillows that have more than one layer and allow adjustments are the most ideal, because they have multiple layers that can be added or removed, depending on the person's needs. At Emma, we have the Original Foam, Premium Foam and the Original Microfibre.

For example, one layer is ideal for stomach sleepers that have a soft mattress and very narrow shoulders. Two layers is recommended for side sleepers with small shoulders or side sleepers with wide shoulders but a soft mattress. Three layers is ideal for side sleepers with wide shoulders and a hard mattress or back sleepers with reflux problems.

It's not recommended for babies or very young children to use a pillow. In general, most pillows sit too high for their small necks to be properly supported.

You can remove layers to adjust the firmness and height of all our pillows, while the Original Hybrid also allows you to flip it to experience different levels of firmness. The Premium Cloud pillow is the softest, while the Original Foam pillow is the firmest, but only without adjustments.

It's not mandatory to buy a pillowcase, but we recommend to keep your pillow cover clean and to match your bedding. Our pillow covers are washable and have a nice touch.
