What is sleep climate?

In general, climate is described as a state of the atmosphere at a particular place. The sleeping climate, especially relating to the bedroom, refers firstly to the air circulation in the room and to the moisture content of the room air. To sleep well and comfortably, it must not be too warm, but also not too cold. The ideal room temperature for good sleep is between 16 and 21 degrees. In addition, the moisture content should be 40% - 60%. Air humidifiers and dehumidifiers are good tools to regulate the correct temperature and humidity in your home.

Creating the perfect sleep climate

Individual and personal warmth and cold needs differ and influence the sleep climate. Women, for example, generally need a warmer room temperature than men. Also, people with lower blood pressure prefer a warmer sleep environment. However, the bedroom should not be heated too much, because otherwise one would risk drying out the nasal mucous membranes and in the worst case catch a cold. At the same time you should not let the room cool too much, since the since this temperature does not allow the body to relax.

Here are a few tips to create the perfect sleep climate:

  • Regularly ventilate your room (25 minutes once a day or several times daily 5-10 minutes)
  • In the summer, air out your home early in the morning or late in the evening
  • Look for air-circulating and breathable mattress materials (especially natural materials such as cotton which quickly balances the moisture content of the mattress)
